Chair's comments
I hope you all had a wonderful
holiday season enjoying the company of family and friends.
To recap December, we had a record turnout for the Christmas Gala-142 paid reservations for a delicious dinner- followed by a fun-filled evening dancing to the tunes of Backstage Pass and savoring the dessert buffet. I hope everyone in attendance had a good time. The gloomy night didn't dull our holiday spirit! The holiday potluck at Robie's was a festive event in her beautifully decorated home. Eddie Harrison played the piano as members mixed and mingled while enjoying a variety of tasty dishes. The menu was coordinated by Mary Pat Custer. Thank you, Robie, for hosting this annual gathering. Another new year begins. What does it hold in store? Since I don't have a crystal ball (Does someone have one I can borrow?) I can share with you what I do know for sure. For Ennead, 2008 will bring another year of informal and formal gatherings. We kick things off with the biggest event of our year-Coronation- during which the 2008 Royal Court will be presented. They are excited to begin their royal year. This is always a stellar event, the first coronation of the Carnival Memphis season, and I encourage everyone to attend and to bring your guests. Carnival Memphis dignitaries will be there, as well as local government officials to read proclamations celebrating the coronation of King Ennead XVIII and Queen Sahara XVIII, their Duchesses, Dukes and Flagman. You don't want to miss this splendid evening. As we welcome our new Royal Court, I know everyone joins me in extending to the 2007 Royalty our thanks for being enthusiastic ambassadors for Ennead and Carnival Memphis. The Ennead Board of Directors has been busy planning monthly parties for 2008. I encourage everyone to attend what I know will be a fun-filled and active year. Besides our own events, I encourage members to attend the upcoming coronations of the other Carnival Memphis krewes. Coming in April will be the fund raisers, the proceeds of which will go to the 3 non-profits selected to share in the proceeds raised for the 2008 Children's Charity Initiative: Carnival Memphis Kids Cafe, The Cystic Fibrosis Foundation and the Harwood Center. Please find it in your hearts to donate your time or whatever other resources you can spare to support these groups that serve special needs within our community. Did you know you can also join Carnival Memphis? For more information about Carnival Memphis, you can visit their website at www.carnivalmemphis.org. Elsewhere in the newsletter, please note that a Book Club is in the works. As Chairman, I authorize sanctioned events which I believe will be of interest to all members. Therefore, from time to time you will see information about venues/events about town. For instance, on Tuesdays there are Cheese Tastings at the River Oaks Grill (on Poplar at I 240) for a reasonable price. So, for those who love cheese, good bread and their favorite bottle of wine (the Grill waives the corkage fee when you take your own bottle), this might be a nice early evening out. I believe 2008 will find Ennead flush with a renewed sense of purpose while we enjoy one another's company and accomplishments. We'll be great in 2008!! LET'S GO ENNEAD!!
