Comments from Bob Laurie, Fund Raiser Chairman .......

First of all, we need your participation.  I need you folks to put together your teams of up to 6 people and then contact either Mike Beck or Nancy Williams by phone or email to let them know your team name and your team members.  Please remember one thing.  Ennead has prided itself for several years as being the krewe that raises the most money for our sponsored charities. In the past, we benefited from a large contribution from a major Memphis corporation. Unfortunately, we will not be receiving that contribution from that corporation this year so we need as large a turnout from our Ennead people as possible.

Second, we need donations of items for our live auction, for door prizes and also to be used as prizes for the winning teams.  What we are looking at are $20 restaurant gift cards and a bottle of wine for each member of the top 2 teams.  If any of you have any connections with some restaurants or liquor stores, please see if any of them would be willing to help.   Barbara Baker and Susan Hanlon are in charge of the live auction items and donated prizes.  If you have any items that you would like to donate, please contact one of them.  If an item needs to be picked up, someone (probably me) will be glad to do that.

There is a fund raising committee meeting Monday, March 31, at Vicki Rivers' home at 7 p.m. All those involved in this event are urged to attend.

Chair's Comments

Spring is trying very hard to make it's entry, and we are all longing for the gentle, warm days ahead.

Your Chairman has recovered from a second bout with the flu, and I was sorry to miss so many things recently. I understand from reliable sources that the participants in the St. Patrick's day parade had a splendid time representing the krewe. Thank you to Joyce Hufford for coordinating the parade arrangements for the krewe, and to all those responsible for building the float and who marched down Beale Street "wearing the green". The relocated "Rock and Roll" party was enjoyed by all. Thanks to Vickie Rivers for finding an alternate venue and securing Eddie Harrison to perform.

Also, thanks to Mary Pat Custer for her work in finding a special place every month for the Happy Hour/Dinner Group to meet, and thanks to Donna Mikeal for finding willing members each month to host the Wine Parties. Vice Chairman Andy Anderson has been hard at work making the arrangements for future party sites and getting bands lined up. A lot of work goes into making the Ennead monthly event calendar varied, and I, as Chairman, am so grateful for the time spent by those mentioned above and required to keep our social lives full.

Susan Hanlon, Gaynette Price and Marta Vinzant are doing an outstanding job keeping the lines of communication open. And Mary Rea has the database under control.

We are entering a busy time as the Carnival Memphis fund raisers begin. We need everyone's participation with Trivia teams and help to make things go smoothly. We need door prizes and items for the live auction. Please help in any way you can. Members need to support the children's charities. This is the krewe's chance to show that we care about our community and the good work that the Harwood Center, The Memphis Food Bank and The Cystic Fibrosis Foundation do. Please see more about Ennead's Trivia Challenge fund raiser elsewhere in this newsletter. Let's raise a bunch of money, OK?

Carnival Memphis is having a contest. The 2 top krewes with the most members who belong to Carnival Memphis and the 2 krewes with the highest percentage of their membership belonging to Carnival Memphis have the chance to win rooms at the Hilton Hotel for the Crown and Scepter Ball which can be used for separate private krewe parties. So, if you haven't joined Carnival, please do so. You can join online or call the Carnival Memphis Office for an application form.

A final word before I close. The Board voted on the by-laws amendments proposed to the membership in the March newsletter. The first amendment was not passed on final reading, but the second amendment was passed and will become part of the Ennead Bylaws.

See you soon at the upcoming events.

Carolyn
