chair's comments WHEW!! As always, the Holidays were filled with good
cheer and festival enjoyment of seeing family, visiting with old friends,
and making new ones. Despite all the great food, my weight stayed the
same. I gained five pounds around my middle, and my check book balance went
down the same amount from paying for the presents and everything else that
goes with this time of the year. Now you know how we accountants keep the
books in balance. |

On the following day was our Christmas Pot Luck. Special thanks to Joe Chamoun with much assistance from Carolyn Mayo on hosting this function on such short notice due to Robie Hoffman’s mishap. It seems as though agreeing to host either the Thanksgiving or Christmas Pot Luck is hazardous to one’s health. However, Robie and Holly Randolph seem to be well on their way to recovery. Looking forward to 2007. Ennead’s Coronation on Saturday, January 13, is a great event and definitely not a party that you want to miss. Our Coronation kicks off the Carnival Season. So, put on your dancing shoes and get to an awesome party. A reminder to the sponsors of our new members. The foremost responsibility of being a great sponsor is making sure that the new member is introduced to as many of your fellow Ennedians as possible. While some people have no hesitancy at walking into a room filled with strangers , most of us need a little hand-holding. So, sponsors, as well as all members, let’s ensure that our new members feel at home. On behalf of the Board, I wish you a Prosperous and Happy New Year! Charlie

Eli
ArkinELI H. "Arch" ARKIN, JR., 74, of Memphis, passed away December 27, 2006 at Baptist Memorial Hospital-Memphis. Funeral services will be 10 a.m., Saturday, December 30 at Memorial Park Funeral Home. Interment will be 10 a.m., Tuesday, January 2, in West Tennessee Veterans Cemetery. He was born in Chicago where he remained until 1949 when his family moved to Orlando. After graduating from Orlando Senior High School in May of 1950, he enlisted in the United States Marine Corps where he was a member of the Underwater Demolition Team and fought in the Korean War. After his military service he joined the Memphis Police Department. In 1971, he was a graduate of the 89th Session of the FBI Academy, and in 1973 a graduate of the U.S. Secret Service School on Dignitary Protective Service. Retiring after 20 years as a law enforcement officer, at the rank of Lieutenant, he spent 20 years with Conwood Corps. Arch earned a degree in sociology from Memphis State University and a master’s degree in criminology from the University of Mississippi. Arch Arkin is survived by his son, Charles L. Arkin; daughter-in-law, Kathryn; three grandsons, Phillip, Jonathan and Alex; daughter, Angela S. Arkin; brother, Dr. Charles Arkin; sister-in-law, Carol Pabian Arkin. Memorials may be made to the National Diabetes Foundation. Memorial Park Funeral Home 901-767-8930 He was a very quiet gentleman with silver hair & always had a tan. Our “old group” would know him as he was a past member of MBC (Memphis Bop Club) & still came occasionally. He also attended RCB (River City Boppers). He had a distinguished life as he was a Navy Seal & was with security for Ronald Reagon when he was governor of California. He was always a gentleman & I am proud he was my friend. ...Sandra Hurley He was my duke, my friend, my rock. Even though he was always quiet, I always knew that he was a generous, brilliant, caring man. In 2002, we served together on the Ennead Royal Court. He was always there for me, supporting me with encouraging words. From the photos I have of him, these are my favorites. As you can see, I mostly enjoyed his wonderful child-like playfulness and sense of humor. He will be missed. ...Marta Vinzant
