New Member Recruitment

The lifeblood of any organization is its members. In November we’ll stage our annual membership recruiting party so I’m asking you to start thinking about which friends and acquaintances of yours would make good candidates to become Enneadians. As you know, attendance at that party is by invitation only. That means you’ll have to submit names and addresses to the New Member Committee in plenty of time for the committee to send out the invitations. You already know the basic qualifications (over 30; legally single; minimum three months of acquaintanceship; etc.). Think about the kind of people you’d like to see more of in Ennead and let’s all go to work on encouraging them to apply for membership. The Board has adopted a policy this year of requiring applicants to attend three (3) “major” events (defined as monthly member parties) with one “significant” event (defined as a monthly wine tasting party or one of the holiday potlucks) as a substitute for one of the “major” event requirements. While applicants are encouraged to attend “incidental” events (defined as special interest and small group sections, like tennis, bridge, spades, birthday party, etc.), these events won’t count for membership qualification. It’s important that Ennedians and applicants have time to get acquainted so everyone can feel the “fit” is “right.” Let’s all do our part in finding more Ennead kind of people and encourage them to “look us over.”

 chair's comments

Good morning,

Wow, it is now October.  The last time that I looked, we were having a great time at the General Business meeting on August 19.  Your Board has been extremely busy since then.

Captain Charles Crumby
Ennead Chairman

On the business side – The Board has filled every Committee Chairman’s position, with the exception of Bar Chairman.  When a Committee Chairman calls you for assistance in doing the work of YOUR organization, please say “Yes”.  Not only will you find it fun and rewarding, you will most likely meet at least one person who you did not know.  And, is that not why you joined Ennead in the first place?  In the event that you are not asked to serve on a Committee, pick up the phone and call me.  We will find a  way for you to help Ennead and meet some other people in the Krewe.

On the fun side – Last month we had a fantastic Wine Tasting bash; a great Treasure Hunt party; and, numerous smaller fun events.  More fun is on the way in October.  Please look at the calendar so that you do not miss out.

The Board asked for suggestions/comments from the members.  The suggestions for parties and new activities  were tremendous, and we hope to implement as many of them as we can over time.

One of the major issues that the Board will be addressing at the October meeting is the adoption of a budget for 2007.  A proposed budget reflecting a shortfall of approximately $3,000 was presented by the Finance Committee at the September meeting.  Since that presentation, the Board has looked at a range of alternatives of balancing the budget.  Ennead's costs, just as with your household, have increased.  No final decision on this matter has been made at this moment.

One last note as to parties.  The theme of the Halloween Party (Saturday, October 28) is Pirates of the Caribbean .  So, there may be a number of pirates and wenches there.  However, if you already have a costume picked out or planned – do not worry.  Just come and have fun.

                                                                        Charlie
