Chair's Comments

Dear Members,

This is my last column to you as the Ennead Chairman. It has been a year of fun but also of challenge. As the Chairman during a time of unprecedented turnover on the Board, a decrease in membership and a downturn in the economy, Ennead has remained a viable and active krewe within the Carnival Memphis family. The splendid Board with whom I have had the pleasure to work has been great, trying to provide the krewe with a year full of varied activities and parties while keeping an eye on Ennead's financial health. The Board members have had a wealth of great ideas and frank discussions, and as Chairman, I can take only small credit for our successes and full responsibility for anything that perhaps has fallen short of the mark. I want to extend a personal "Thank You" to each person who has served on the Board this past year. I extend my best wishes to the 6 carry-over Board members and to the 6 soon-to-be elected Board members for the coming year.

This month each of us has the opportunity to vote for 6 new Board members-3 women and 3 men- we believe will best represent us. A wonderful slate of capable candidates has been presented for our consideration. All the candidates have special talents and range of experiences to help guide Ennead through another year. The year ahead will be especially challenging due to the affect on the Ennead budget by the increasing costs for venues, entertainment and food. Some belt-tightening may be inevitable, but I know that new Ennead Board will find creative ways to provide plenty of opportunities for fun and fellowship. It is hoped that our membership will grow if we all promote how truly special and distinctive Ennead is for select Memphis singles.

I will close with these thoughts. Success comes with identifying goals and the commitment to reach those goals. Help from each member in any capacity throughout the year will aid Ennead to reach goals set by the Board to keep Ennead a unique social and fund raising group within the local community. Please find ways to offer your own talents and energy to the krewe. Don't wait to be asked- volunteer! I believe that many of you miss part of the enjoyment of belonging to the krewe by not getting involved by helping to make our events- big or small- special.

For those of you who consistently step forward to decorate, cook, bartend, and clean-up, kudos are warranted. But there are so many members who don't contribute when it takes so little to accomplish a lot.  So come on, members! Let's all do our part. Let's turn a new leaf and really make the effort to show support for the krewe. We care enough to pay our dues. We can show we care by our good deeds on behalf of Ennead.

My Best Regards to One and All-

Carolyn
