I cannot promise eloquently written comments for the newsletter, but I can promise to keep you informed of all the wonderful, fun activities and events our new enthusiastic board is planning right now.
I'd like to take this opportunity to thank the retiring board members, Robie, Mary, Nancy, John, Dallas, and Bob, and their tireless efforts this past year.
I couldn't ask for a better board of directors to work with this year!  Mike Miles, VP, will be working closely with me as my "right hand man".  I always wanted one of those.  Julie Eaves, Treasurer, will be working closely with our Finance Committee to get and keep us on track with our budget.  Tayloe Nickey, our Secretary, will be making sure that we don't forget a thing and he will be working closely with Susan Hanlon and Shirley Lawson, Communication Committee Co-Chairs, to make sure that the membership is kept informed of everything.  David Brockmann did such a great job as Membership Chairman last year that we have insisted that he serve another term.  Dick Raichelson, Rules Chairman, is planning to review our surveys and by-laws and make suggestions on bringing us up to date.  Donna Mikeal will be working closely with all the Small Group Chairmen, keeping our calendar full of fun activities.  Don Chenault, Catering Chairman, will be working closely with Dan Tucker, Party Chairman.  And you know with "Dancin' Dan," we're sure to have some fun parties! Barbara Baker will be working closely with Carnival Memphis on the Children's Charity Initiative as our Fundraising Chairman.
We always need help on different committees, so if you are willing to help, please call any one of us.
I had the unfortunate experience of attending memorial services for one of our dear members, Klink Cook, who died on Aug. 11.  I will miss him greatly...I know you will too.
I don't know about ya'll, but I thought the Annual Business Meeting/Party was wonderful!  Thank you, Dick Raichelson and Billy Britton.  Thank you for showing your support by casting your votes and filling out the surveys.  When Dick's committee compiles a report from the surveys, we will be sure to follow through on your suggestions.  If you would be interested in submitting additional ideas, please contact any board member.
Take a look at our calendar this month!  There are plenty of activities and events to please everyone.
I've not visited McClain's Hound Dog Ranch before, but I'm looking forward to going there for our September party and having an enjoyable afternoon in the country with Ennead friends and our guests on the 21st.  See you there...

    Marta

    FYI and Condolences

Klink Cook died August 21  after a long illness.   Julie Eaves shares her memories of him....

I first remember talking to Klink at a birthday party at The Cockeyed Camel...I really did not get a chance to talk to anyone else that night...he acted like I was the only person in the room.  It was a little unnerving at first, but he was such a neat fellow that we became immediate friends and started emailing and talking often.  He and I both loved Pancho's Restaurant and went there several times and he would always bring his own hot sauce that he had discovered on one of his many trips.  He told me of his travels and his experiences as a journalist and I felt like I had been with him---his stories were so vivid and exciting.  He was a wonderful story teller but he was also a great listener.  At his memorial service, several people told stories about his witty sense of humor, his ability to put smiles on faces, and of his generosity.  Marta, who had been sworn to secrecy, told of his cash donations to Ennead charities that were to remain anonymous.  Another friend shared that he would secretly pay for altar flowers at his church by selecting someone to honor who may have otherwise gone unnoticed.  What a kind gesture.  Not an unkind word was spoken of him and everyone there had been touched by Klink in some positive way.  I had the pleasure of calling Klink my friend, as did many in Ennead, and we will treasure the memories.
