Dear Friends,
Greetings and salutations! As the New Year
dawns, Ennead and the spirit of Ennead is strong and growing for nineteen
years. We are proud of our heritage and traditions as a Grand Carnival
Krewe!
Excitement is in the air as we prepare for our
Queen, King and Royal Court. Elaborate gowns and crowns decorated with
jewels sound like something out of a fairytale, but at the Coronation of
Queen Sahara and King Ennead XIX, fairytales will come true!
We are so fortunate to have very talented and
professional people planning this exciting event. Chairman Barbara Baker
and Co-Chairs Janice Casey and Andy Anderson are a great team. Marta
Vinzant, Lynn Maxted, Alan Bolton and Bill Raiford are also leading
committees. All members are encouraged to contact Chairpersons and offer
your services. Everyone is welcome!
Altogether, we have had a very good year for
gaining new members. Membership Chairman David Brockmann, never misses a
chance of recruiting and does so very effectively. Getting new members is
everyone’s responsibility. New members are the lifeblood of any
organization. They bring new ideas and energy to the Krewe. Everyone
should bring a friend along to one of our functions such as the Coronation.
It is a great way to show what the Krewe does, what we stand for, and it is
a nice opportunity to meet Krewe members. Remember, you would not be a
member of Ennead if someone had not invited you to join or exposed you to
the work we do.
While we are on the subject, our wonderfully
efficient Treasurer Mary Rea, would like to remind you that dues for the
coming year are due by January 1st and delinquent on the 15th. To be listed
in the 2009 membership directory, please mail your check right away.
Each year, we make generous donations to three
local children’s charities. The winners for the 2009 carnival are Memphis
Oral School for the Dear, Streets Ministries and Youth Villages. Carnival
Memphis and the ten Krewes will jointly host a fun charity auction
at the University Club.
We will have a food and wine tasting with live entertainment. Two of these
charities have matching funds, and sponsorships are tax deductible! Getting
sponsorships is an extremely challenging task, but with extraordinary work,
dedication and determination from our members and Fundraiser Chairman Jimmy
Humphreys, we can make this a Memphis tradition!
Three very special couples are leaving Ennead
this year: John and Llana, Vickie and Bill, and Marti and Jack. Sincere
thanks for your generous support throughout the years. May your marriages
always be blessed! Congratulations and best wishes!
May the New Year bring everyone lots of
happiness and prosperity!
With love,
Robie
