Marta's Memo

WOW!  What a fabulous Coronation!  I think Ennead kicked off the Carnival Season in grand style!  And this is just the take-off on our “Magic Carpet Ride!”  The rest of the year is going to be so much fun and we have the best Royal Court.  Congratulations to King Andrew Anderson; Queen Carolyn Mayo; Duchesses Barbara Baker, Julie Eaves, Marion Marr, Gaynette Price; Dukes Joe Chamoun, John Goodyear, Charles Perry, Jim Turner; and Flagman Charlie Crumby!  They will represent Ennead fabulously this year.  I would like to invite all of you to join the court and me as we fly through the season.  Be sure to see the schedule in this newsletter and plan to join us in supporting the other Carnival Krewes.

I’d like to thank Mary Rea for such a great job in organizing the Coronation.  Thanks also goes to Joyce Hufford and CC Myers and the rest of the decorating committee for their creative decorations, Mike Miles and Peggy Edwards for taking care of registration, Ellen Patrick for making sure that the invitations were mailed, Nancy Williams Enochs for getting the press coverage, McKay Clark for getting the VIPs and proclamations, David Kelley for the greatest music, Kathy Jacobs and Mary Pat Custer for planning the Royalty Cocktail Party, Dan Tucker and Jimmy McGarrity for being willing to act as genies.

I’d like to mention that there were only a handful of wonderful people who stayed late after the Coronation to help put away the decorations and again the next day.  These folks have my gratitude as well.  Our parties are so wonderful, but they don’t just happen….many helping hands are needed to make each one a success.  Please consider pitching in next time and helping with the next party.  The more involved you become in Ennead, the more you and everyone will benefit.

Our annual fundraiser, Krewes for Kids, is coming up in April.  Be sure to contact Barbara Baker to offer your help.

Dan Tucker has been busy planning a “Wild Cajun Dance Party” to be held on Friday the 12th.  We have a Cajun band coming to play some great music.  We will have a crawfish boil starting at 6:30 so if you want to help cook and enjoy a little pre-party, please come on.  We have a Cajun cook-off planned.  We will be giving prizes, so plan to bring your best dish.  Contact Don Chenault, as he will be coordinating the food.  377-4936  We’ll have a mask contest too.  Souvenir Hurricane glasses will be available for purchase, as well as Hurricanes and call brand drinks for $5 each.  There will be complimentary wine and beer as well.  You really don’t want to miss this party…it is going to be so much fun!

If you haven't already, please mail in your dues.

See you next time!

Marta

Message from the Queen

Dear Ennead Members-

As the newly crowned King and Queen of Ennead, Andy and I want to thank everyone who contributed to the success of our Coronation Saturday night. All the time and effort spent attending to details made the evening go smoothly, and made the Coronation special for us. We are proud to be representing Ennead, showing that Ennead can come together as a unified entity as we begin our reign on a high note. We will endeavor to represent the krewe with dignity, and guide the Royal Court on a memorable magic carpet ride.

The krewe received many compliments from our guests, commenting on how great the decorations were, how tasty the food selections were, and how good the band was. I cannot forget to mention the appearances of the lovely belly dancer and the handsome camel who were so popular. Our genie waiters were the perfect touch. The good will that infused the Ballroom as Ennead kicked off the 2010 Carnival Memphis season was tangible and most gratifying. Ennead always sets the standard for "WOW", and this year's Coronation established a new paradigm for exceptional.

Again, a heartfelt thank you to all involved in getting our magic carpet airborne.

Fondest regards,
Queen Carolyn

FUNDRAISING
Save the date!  Saturday, April 24th Krewes for Kids.  The Fundraising event of the year is getting off to a fast start.  the Auction this year will focus on items donated by the Krewes much as last year but aiming just a little bit higher.  Through the generosity of the Krewes we raised over $50,000 last year for the chosen charities.  We are asking for 10 - 15 high quality items from each Krewe.  Ennead has always been the leader in bringing in the most items as well as making a great showing at the event.  Let's show them once again!  All donations with a completed form must be submitted by Wednesday, April 7th at 4:30 pm to have the donor's name in the Krewes for Kids Auction Booklet.  Forms and items may be submitted until Wednesday the 21st but the donor will not be listed.  We will be asking for volunteers later to help with all the activities.  Start thinking about the donations now!  Combine items with your friends to make theme baskets, catered dinners, use of cabins or resort lodgings, sports items or events.  Call me with any questions or suggestions.
