Marta's Memo

Carnival Week was exciting and very busy!  I was very proud to accompany the royal court in representing Ennead at all the Carnival events.  I’d like to personally thank the royal court…Queen Carolyn; King Andy; Duchesses Barbara, Julie, Marion, Gaynette; Dukes Charles, Jim, John, Joe; and Flagman Extraordinaire Charlie.  You all did a fantastic job representing Ennead.

On that same note….didn’t our Vice Chairman, Mike Miles, do a magnificent job on our Clubroom?  I am still getting compliments from other Krewes on the food, band, decorations, and bar.  The attendance was fantastic and it was a nice change of venue.  I’d also like to include a thank you to the following people for their participation: Ellen Patrick – invitations, Carl Boggs – bar, Joanne Qualls & Nancy Bowman – Registration, CC Myers – decorations, and all the others who helped make the party a huge success!  Thank you everyone who stayed to help clean up.  Because of you, we were able to accomplish the task in record time and I’ve been told we did a better job than any other krewe using the facility that week.

Thank you, Michelle, for hosting our wine party again.  The wine parties are so popular and it is always appreciated when members volunteer their homes, clubhouses, etc. to host these parties. If you would like to host a wine party, please contact Donna at 756-1716.

Because the Chairman of the Rules Committee could not attend the board meeting last month, the Board of Directors tabled the by-law changes until our next board meeting on July 13th

I’d like to take this opportunity to heap praises on our Party Chairman, Dan Tucker.  The parties this year have been phenomenal! He has organized diverse themes, entertainment, and venues.  He has magically stretched our dollars to create top notch parties.  Be sure to thank him and volunteer to help when you see him.

Plans are underway for Ennead's 20th Anniversary Party to be held September 18th.  Please begin to promote this event to all your former Ennead friends.  If you have contact information on any former Ennead member, please send it to Dottie Crihfield, lovelylawnlady@gmail.com or 848-5060.  Kay Clark is collecting memorabilia from the past Ennead events.  These will be used for centerpieces and displays, which will be returned to you after the party.  Contact Kay if you have any of these items.  Kclarkn1@aol.com or 682-0898.

The annual business meeting/party will be held at the University Club on August 14th.  We will be electing 6 new board members for a 2 year term.  The candidates’ bios are included in this newsletter.  If you will not be able to attend the meeting to vote for your candidates, please contact me for an absentee ballot.

Do you know someone who might enjoy membership in our krewe?  Invite them to our next event.

See you next time!

Charles Boone

Charles Boone served as a Duke in 1998, King Ennead XIV in 2004, and a Director of Ennead in 2001 and 2002.  He is a native Memphian and a member of Hope Presbyterian Church, the Kiwanis Club of Downtown Memphis, and the Memphis Country Club. After graduating from East High School he received a B.A. degree and JD degree in five years from Vanderbilt University.

His professional pursuits include Vice President of Malone and Hyde where he invested in and developed commercial real estate. He later formed a  real estate brokerage company and developed the Quality Inn and Cockeyed Camel at Poplar and I-240 and the St. Louis Truck Stop at Exit 18 on I-40 and U. S. 64 that has now become St. Charles Place. His latest endeavor, working with fellow Ennead member Walt Henley, is the development of a computer education program Watchknow.org.

Charles enjoys his involvement in Carnival Memphis charity events and hosting Ennead events in his home

Dottie Crihfield

I joined Ennead in 1989.  In the early 90's I was a Board Member, on the Royal Court, chaired committees and headed up small groups.  It was a place to make friends and network with single people with similar life styles.  I have seen Ennead through its ups and downs and believe Ennead needs youth AND experience.  I would like to help us stay stable, so I bring that experience!

I am a native Memphian, attended Messick, and educated as an R. N. where I worked as an ICU/ER nurse.  For many years I traveled the country and taught Quality Assurance before retiring and starting a design/landscape business, Lovely Lawns.  I have been successful and continue to manage the business end and physically work daily.  Since I am now Empty Nested, I have time to better participate with my extended family, Ennead.   I hope you will allow me to continue to contribute by being on the board.  Thanks for your consideration.

Ron Kirkpatrick

I have been a member of Ennead for a few years and I have really enjoyed the Krewe. If elected to the Board, I will (along with the other Board members) serve Ennead with enthusiasm and dedication. I was born and raised in Memphis, but I made my home in Atlanta, GA for over 20 years. I returned to Memphis about 18 months ago. I am involved in a few different business ventures, but my professional background has primarily been in real estate development, both commercial and  residential projects.

Michelle Kornberger

I became a member of Ennead in August, 2009. I joined Ennead because of its work for children's charities. Since becoming a member, I have served Ennead in various ways. I took over editing our newsletter in the Fall, 2009. This is an important tool that keeps each Ennead member informed of all our activities. I have helped decorate various parties as well as worked the registration table for various events. I have sponsored a potential member, hosted wine parties and participated in our 2010 Black Tie Tennis Shoe skit.  My goal as a board member would be to help increase Ennead's membership and make it an even better organization then it already is.

I have extensive experience serving on a Board of Trustees. which I hope to use to benefit Ennead. I served on the Board of Trustees for the Tennessee Association of Middle Schools in the following capacities:  newsletter editor (3 years), Vice President, President-Elect, President, and Past President.

I moved to Memphis in 1995. I currently teach for Memphis City Schools. I am an active member of Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church in Germantown and serve my in duties related to our weekly Sunday Mass as well as every Wednesday afternoon during the school year as the assistant to the Director of Religious Education.

Jim McGarrity

I am a native Memphian, and have been a member of Ennead for a year and a half.  It has been a great experience, and I have been very fortunate to meet and socialize with a great group of people.  I believe that is important to be a participant, and to assist in some capacity.   I also believe that it personally rewarding to serve.  Therefore, I have decided to be a candidate for the board of Ennead.  It would be an honor to be able to perform and to give back in that capacity.

Ellen Patrick

Thank you for the opportunity to run for a position on the Ennead Board of Directors and a chance to take on the responsibilities which will be required to hold such a position. I have a Bachelor of Science degree from the University of Tennessee and I am currently employed by Ozark Motor Lines Inc. in the Information Technology department as a LAN support specialist. I became a member of the Grand Krewe of Ennead in 2004 and have enjoyed everyday spent making great friendships. I have enjoyed working on committees such as the registration desk, decorating committee, a Caller for the calling committee. Last year I hosted a wine party at my house and this year I was in charge of sending invitations for the Ennead Coronation and Clubroom.  My participation in Black Tie Tennis Shoe competition for the past two years has been a fun experience. As a Duchess on the Royal court in 2009, I enjoyed the wonderful opportunity to represent Ennead and interact with the members of all of the Krewes of Carnival Memphis.  I am proud of the money that Ennead helped raise for Children's Charity Initiative and the high esteem to which we are held by other krewes of Carnival Memphis. I have also enjoyed my past volunteer work with STARS and current volunteer work with Memphis in May Music Festival and BBQ competition. I am proud to be a nominee for the board and if elected, I look forward to the challenge of making the coming year an exciting and successful one for members.

Gaynette Price

In 2005, I joined ENNEAD to meet other single, professional adults. My career as a senior manager in educational sales required that I travel a 4-state area leaving me little time for a social life. I needed help! Through my church's divorce recovery program, I met amazing friends who began to fill the social void in my life, who introduced me to ENNEAD and who sponsored me for membership. In ENNEAD, I have made lifetime friendships, joined in fantastic activities, worked on a variety of events, and am representing ENNEAD as a Duchess on our 2010 Royal Court.
Now, I would like to use my professional sales skills and expanded personal contacts to further serve ENNEAD's leadershp team. It was exciting to get the call urging me to run for our Board, and, if elected, I will work to take ENNEAD to the next level of Krewe growth in Carnival Memphis. My job responsibilities now allow me to focus on the Memphis area, giving me opportunity for expanded service in ENNEAD. Your vote will allow me to have this privilege and responsibility
