I can’t believe this year has gone so quickly!  It seems like I was just writing my first message for the newsletter and looking forward to a year of chairmanship. And here I am writing my last.  This has been the most rewarding year serving Ennead as Chairman.  I can’t say enough about the hard working directors of the board this year.  We worked together as a great team to accomplish a lot this year.  We concentrated on planning quality parties, while maintaining a strict budget, we recruited some fabulous new members, we participated in the Krewes for Kids Fundraiser by cooking and serving a dinner for 10 people, and we updated our by-laws to better serve the organization.  The board members have my sincerest thanks for their enthusiasm, dedication, compassion, and integrity. 

The by-law changes were voted on and put into effect at our last board meeting on July 13^th.  A complete copy of the by-laws will be available on our web site and printed copies will be distributed at the Annual Business Meeting. 

I’d like to take this opportunity to say a special thanks to our small group chairmen.  Donna Mikeal, Small Groups Chairman, did a fabulous job organizing our calendar this year with all the small group chairmen while planning the Wine Parties as well.  Thanks go to Janet Dodson, Happy Hour Chairman, Kathleen Webster, Bridge Chairman, Jim Woods, Tennis Chairman, Mary Pat Custer, Dinner Group and Pot Luck Chairman, and Joyce Hufford and Lynn Maxted, Cultural Arts Co-Chairs.  The monthly parties are always great, but I think the small group activities are the best to really get to know and enjoy each other.

Our parties wouldn’t be too much fun without food and beverages….that being said a few people need to be thanked….Don Chenault, Catering Chairman, was responsible for organizing all the food this year. Nancy Enochs Beck, Bar Chairman for the first half of the year and Carl Boggs, Bar Chairman, for the second half of the year.  Since we had more open bar parties this year, they really worked hard.

Don’t forget Ennead's 20th Anniversary Party to be held September 18th.  If you have contact information on any former member, please send your information to Dottie Crihfield.  Get the word out!!!  We don’t want anyone to miss this reunion.  I have to give kudos to Dottie at this time.  She has spent hours compiling a comprehensive data base of former and current Ennead members.

Our Rules Committee realized after the board nominations went out last month that Michelle Kornberger will not be eligible for nomination until August 14, 2010 per our by-laws, at which time she will have been a member for one year.  So, in order to comply with the by-laws, Michelle will be collecting the 20 names on her petition to be nominated from the floor at the Annual Business Meeting and Party being held at the University Club on August 14^th.  Jim Woods and JoAnne Qualls are also gathering names for their petitions to be nominated from the floor as well.  If you will not be able to attend the meeting to vote for your candidates, please contact me for an absentee ballot. Absentee ballots must be in our PO Box by August 11^th.

As I retire my gavel, I feel confident that the next Chairman and new board will serve us well.  Please step up and volunteer to help them.  Get involved.  You will be rewarded. 

I have enjoyed my year as Chairman.  Thank you for your support and confidence.

Amerigo's House wines $4 and beer $3.50. Amerigo's is providing us with our own room that evening so please ask for the Ennead party upon entering the restaurant.

Annual Business Meeting/Party - Saturday August 14     Cocktails 6:30, Meeting 7:00 pm, Party 8:00 pm  University Club - Guests will not be allowed in the business meeting, but they will be able to enjoy the cash bar and party atmosphere while we conduct business

Wine Party - Friday August 20     7:00 pm
At the home of Kathy Basherig (854-8899) 10100 Advent Ridge Drive, Collierville.  Gentlemen please bring wine. Ladies please bring food.

Dinner Group - Friday August 27     5:30 pm drinks  7:00 pm Dinner group this month will meet at Pearl's Oyster House located at 299 South Main Street. Please inform Mary Pat (marypcuster@aol.com) if you are staying for dinner.
