This column is dedicated to only one topic this month, the Ennead Fundraiser.  This event is our “Party with a Purpose”, the membership’s chance to raise money for the deserving children served by the 2007 Carnival Memphis charities – United Cerebral Palsy of the Mid-South, the Emmanuel Episcopal Center, and The Neighborhood School.  The money raised will benefit children right here where we live.

For the most part, we in Ennead have been blessed with good health and a supportive network of family and friends.  But the children we are striving to help have not been so fortunate.  They suffer from physical handicaps and/or do not have the love and support of a nurturing family.  The problems that these children live with every day are not of their making and, at times, appear overwhelming.

On March 24, each Enneadian is being provided with the opportunity to make a difference in these children’s lives.   Who knows what impact you can have by your participation that night?  What more happiness could you ask for than that!  You get to be Santa a bit early this year.

Let’s aim for 100% participation by our membership.  The minimum donation that you are asked to make when you walk through the door is $30.  I hope that the Treasurer makes a deposit with MANY checks of more than $30!   And, if you cannot come to our Fundraiser, send in your check made payable to Ennead.

In recent years our Fundraiser has centered on a Silent Auction.  Each member was asked to solicit items to be auctioned.  Most of us just simply purchased a gift certificate or some item which was donated to the Silent Auction.  Since we are not doing a Silent Auction this year, and therefore you are not being asked to purchase something to donate, please keep that in mind when writing your check.

A number of people have already worked hard and will work more hours to make the Fundraiser a fun time.  However, without your financial support, this party will not mean a darn thing to the children.  Come have fun but ….Let’s do this for the kids!  They need your help much more than any of us needs another CD or whatever that gives us temporary pleasure.

See you there on March 24th.
