chair's comments

No major earth shattering stories this month.  But, as always, things are happening in Ennead.  Wednesday, June 6 is our Clubroom.  Details as to time and location are elsewhere in the Newsletter.  This is always a great party, and this year will be no exception.  Carolyn Mayo and her committee are working hard to make the event a blockbuster.

Be sure to note that the July 4th party has been moved to Saturday, June 30.  This date change was dictated by the sponsors of the fireworks display.  We were not notified of the change until about three weeks ago.  Fortunately for us, Joyce Hufford had stayed on top of this party and learned of the change very shortly after it was made.  Through a lot of hard work and a number of phone calls, Joyce and Dave Everson were able to switch all plans for a band, food arrangements, etc on short notice.  Thank you, Joyce and Dave.

We have had a number of people join Ennead in recent months.  Please make a point of introducing yourself when you see a new face.  Let’s make our new members know that they are welcomed.

The Nominating Committee will soon be finalizing a slate of candidates who will be running for the Board at the August General Business meeting on Saturday, August 11.  If you have not been contacted about this opportunity and you wish to run for the Board, please contact me.  Each candidate is to prepare a profile – not to exceed 200 words – which will be placed in the July Newsletter.  These profiles must be submitted to Marta Vinzant and/or me by no later than June 10.   Marta needs the extra time to prepare the profiles for the Newsletter.

A big thank you to Bill Hunt for being such a gracious host for the KY Derby party.  Also thanks to Bill McMurtray for running the Board, T. C. Johnson for donating the decorations, and the catering committee of Andy Anderson, Joyce Laws, and Kathy Jacobs for preparing such a great repast.

I would also like to take this opportunity to thank Jim Driscoll, Tayloe Nickey and Bill Raiford for doing such a great job on the directory.  If you have not received your directory, please contact Jim Driscoll at jjd6843@aol.com or 601-0069.

The 5K for Kids proved to be a fun fundraising event.  Several of our members participated in the race.  A special thanks goes to Mary Rea, Carolyn Mayo, Kathy Jacobs, Betty Reschenberg, Susie Sargent, and Marta Vinzant for setting up the Ennead tent and providing food and beverages for the Krewe.

Remember – June is the traditional “wedding” month.  Be careful and have a great June!
