chair's comments

It is the first of August.  Baseball season is still going strong; college football is about to start; and, the Ennead Board member election is upon us. Fortunately, the election of our six new Board members will not result in the confusion and discord of another local election.

Seriously, the electoral process this year is no more or no less serious than it is every other year.  If you have not already done so, please get to know the candidates before August 11.  Be an informed voter and vote for the persons who you believe will put the Krewe’s best interest first at all times.  This is YOUR vote, not your buddy’s vote.

 Coach Charlie
Ennead Chairman

The Annual Business Meeting and the Christmas Party will both be held at the Memphis Country Club (MCC), an excellent location.  We are very fortunate to have access to this facility; however, we may no longer be able to utilize this facility unless we make some changes.

As with most businesses and households, the MCC is incurring increased costs, and is therefore raising its fee structure.  Although the Krewe is under the former cost structure for the August meeting, the fee to use the MCC in December is sharply higher.  The Board has looked at a number of alternatives to balance the desires of the members to have an elegant Christmas party with financial responsibility.

The most viable alternative to meet both of these objectives is for the members to help bear the cost of the party by having dinner at MCC prior to the party.  Although having a dinner is not a new idea, the problem is that attendance by the membership has been waning in recent years.  In order for Ennead to continue to have its Christmas party at such a desirable location, greater attendance at the dinner is a must.  Remember, you do have to eat somewhere that night, so why not eat there!

While plans have not been finalized as of this writing, the Board is tentatively planning on having a steak and lobster dinner at the MCC prior to the Christmas party.  The meal has an approximate cost of $60 to MCC members, but Enneadians will only be paying about $35 to $40.  All the details have not been worked out yet.  That in itself is a value.

Also, we all know how crowded nice restaurants are on weekend nights during the Christmas season.  So, I encourage all of us to attend the dinner this year.  It will be a great opportunity to share the Christmas spirit with your fellow Enneadians in a genteel manner.  No need to make a reservation, etc.

Back to the upcoming Annual Business Meeting.  In the event any member knows in advance that (s)he cannot attend the Business Meeting, that member must personally request from the Chairman a certified absentee Official Ballot.  The absentee Official Ballot must be completed and mailed by the requesting member to the Krewe’s official address which is Grand Krewe of Ennead, P O Box 172165, Memphis, TN  38187.  The certified absentee Official Ballot (no copies will be accepted) must be received by Wednesday, August 8.

Lastly, this is my final Chairman’s message.  It has truly been an honor and a privilege to be the Chairman of Ennead.  Thank goodness for a fantastic Board of Directors to guide the Krewe along the path during the past twelve months.

Charlie
